Today's weather was a huge tease but had to take advantage of it.
Had a great Veterans Day up in Northern Arizona. Drove up to Page, hit horseshoe bend, antelope canyon, then caught the sunset at the Grand Canyon. It was an eventful day.
Loved this spot, so worth the trek.
Seriously the best car I have ever owned. Love my #rav4 The AWD is great, we hauled butt up those back roads. @toyotausa Hiking and camping in Lockett Meadow in October is a yearly tradition since college. Good times.
I can't flip but I'm glad I get to cruise with people that can so I get to photograph them. This backflip over Secret Falls was clutch. Last year I was limited to just 35mm this year I had 17mm at my disposal and it was legit. Love that wide focal length.
After an unsuccessful and very disappointing attempt at the JMT I was not letting the trip down to Havasupai go. I had an amazing time with some amazing people. We were ready for some serious rain, but only had a few showers in the evenings and lots of sun during the days. I found a good balance between photo work and good ol' natural fun. The decision to haul down my camera gear is always a difficult one but this ridiculous sunset at Havasu Falls made it so worth it. Knee pain was consistent the whole week but it didn't stop me. Cheers to hopefully getting permits again next year!
Things don't always work out as planned and sometimes you have to wave that white flag. For me that white flag was dropping out of the John Muir Trail on day 3 after almost 50 miles. After months of planning and so much hype my body just couldn't do it. Note to self do not haul a 47 pound pack through the JMT, trying to do 16-20 miles a day for 11 days, your knee will not be able to handle it. The decision to drop out was a difficult one, but one made to hopefully not cause lifetime damage to my knee. I know the trail isn't going anywhere but damn do I hate quitting. I'm hoping it is just an IT band strain and not a meniscus tear. Those three days, although very difficult physically and mentally were absolutely beautiful. I have tons of shots to share (this is not one of them.) After getting out on Friday I was able to visit my sister in San Francisco for the weekend then drive down the coast. Last night I left SF at around 9:30pm to book it to McWay Falls to try to catch the Milky Way but the clouds were heavy and the moon was too bright by the time I got there. I'm still stoked on the night shot I got though. Cheers to hopefully a lighter pack next year, a few extra days and no more than 15 miles a day!! Here is some of my equipment that you can always find in my pack. I'm gearing up for a big trip this summer, but don't want to jinx it. Training has already started, but I'm kicking it into high gear this next month.
I like going back to places when I have new glass, a better polarizer, and new focal lengths.
